For the last few years my prime destinations for travelling are tropical rainforests (the Torrid Zone) with their unique biodiversity. They are disappearing at a swift rate under the pressure of globalisation. Those forests cover less than 5% of land (10% in the past) and scientists estimate that up to 70% of all land species of fauna and flora exist in those forests. Destroying them we practically eradicate life on the Earth and at the same time the delicate life support system. Raising knowledge about the Natural World should be the priority of all educational systems everywhere and the fact that this is clearly not so, simply proves our attitude towards nature which gives credibility to the statements of the experts. Therefore I am endeavouring to contribute in one way or the other to the preservation of these places by raising awareness of endangered species and their regions by a presentation of my pictures with a handful of information. Photographs of Nature appear in different parts of the gallery but I thought of gathering some of them together in this section for those who have an interest in this type of photography.
To back up my words above I want to quote two fragments from the book "The creation" I have recently read, written by famous authority in the world of science Eward O. Wilson:
"Education in biology is important not just for the welfare of humanity but for the survival of the rest of life. Every conservationist with whom I have discussed the subject agrees that the general indifference of people to the living world is the failure of introductory education in biology."
"The more we learn about the biosphere, the more complex and beautiful it turns out to be. Knowledge of it is a magic well: the more you draw from it, the more there is to draw. Earth, and especially the razor-thin film of life enveloping it, is our home, our wellspring, our physical and much of our spiritual sustenance."
