Having in mind the altitude and thin air, being physically fit is the key word. As the leader and organizer of the expedition I asked and continually encouraged the team to get physically active to be fit enough for the ascent. Unfortunately, not all took my advices seriously. In most cases, it is the lack of preparation that takes lethal toll on this mountain about 100 dead each year. The team climbing, in the so called "extreme conditions", was a new experience to me in relation to discovering a different nature of characters in people who I had always thought I knew well. After 3 days of hiking, on 17th of August in 1995 we stood up on the summit of Mt. Blanc 4810 m above see level.
