POLISH SYRIA

Photograps 2011

Syria - the country, that ceased to exist!
Some historians and archeologists discern the origins of our civilisation and even the "Biblical Paradise" in the land of syrians. Some experts claim, that Ugaritic alphabet possibly was the base for creating the Greek and Latin alphabet. Syria and precisely the city of Palmyra was an important crossroad on the famous silk road. From there, caravans veered towards Europe and Africa.
For millennia the land was invaded by other neighboring super powers, that wanted to reign over this desert country. In XXI century, the Western Super Powers invaded it, leveling it to the ground as never before. My travel to Syria was the last year when we could admire this country. I arrived there in February 2011 in a peace time and left one month later in the war time (at the time mainly south of Damascus).
