Around 18000 hectares of the mangrove forest is used in commercial industry. Mainly in production of charcoal and building. When part of the forest is chopped down new saplings are planted. After 15 and then 20 years the part is cut down again removing only the thickest trunks and after 30 years the part is completely removed and the process starts again.
