POLISH TATRA MOUNTAINS

Photograps

Tatra mountains are the pride of Polish nation and the natural showpiece of the country. Shrouded in snow peaks, with unique fauna and flora and distinctive mountainous culture of the Podhale region for decades It was all put on a pedestal particularly by communist government. Colloquially called the roof of Poland, it was the exercise ground for the first Polish pioneering Himalayan mountaineers such as Jerzy Kukuczka or Wanda Rutkiewicz.
They were as well my preliminary exercise ground before my expedition to Mt.Blanc. Our winter climbs on Rysy (highest peak of Poland 2500 m.) wading in the snow up to our waist, were exceptionally difficult and exhausting for unseasoned young climbers. Personally, I think, the mountains possess something that inflames the longing for them and fuels the passion for mountaineering. And except the esthetic values, as the whole nature, they are our spiritual sustenance. I only regret that being a teenager I did not have any camera to record the breathtaking landscapes.
